How do I register myself or my child?
Please download the registration form from the “Registration” page, print it out, complete it, and send it along with a check in the amount of the registration fee to the following address: German School of Ft. Lauderdale, 11821 NW 31st Place, Sunrise, FL 33323 We will reserve you or your child a spot in the respective group upon receipt of the registration.What is the course of the school year and the classes?
The Thursday and Saturday classes run from mid August until the end of May. The courses run throughout the school year. The Saturday school’s summer break lasts from May through August. With exception of one week summer break, the daily preschool runs throughout the entire summer. During the summer months of June and July, we allow children to register on a weekly basis. This provides families with the option to sign up for “trial weeks” before the start of the new school year.How do I determine which course, or which class is the right one for me or my child?
We provide all “new” students the option to first participate in one or more trial lessons (at a fee of 20.00 USD per hour). These hours allow the teacher as well as the student to form an opinion in regards to the proficiency level, and choose or recommend the correct course. What happens if I sign my child out for a month? A month long sign-out must take place before the first of the respective month. The child’s spot within the group will be kept open. In order to secure a spot in the group, the school tuition for the month must be paid. What type of education and qualification do teachers and preschool teachers of the German School of Ft. Lauderdale possess? We only accept highly qualified and motivated educators as part of our team with a high level of proficiency in the German language. Lauderdale”?
We solely use textbooks from Germany. In courses for native speakers, we use textbooks from German schools appropriate for the respective age and language level of the students. The design of our curriculum is open and flexible, i.e. we work in accordance to the students’ individual abilities and skills, striving to live up to all different types of learners by addressing the different senses, e.g. in form of centers, project work, etc. Our “German as a Foreign Language” groups use modern textbooks from Germany, i.e. books which also focus on addressing the different senses and use an holistic approach to learning the language.What types of certificates / diplomas are offered by the “German School of Ft. Are those certificates/diplomas accredited by the study colleges, colleges, and universities
in Germany?
Students of the “German School of Ft. Lauderdale” have the option to pass the A2 exams of the Central Department for the School System Abroad (ZfA -Zentralstelle für Auslandsschulwesen), the DSD 1 (German Language Certificate – Level A2/B1), and the DSD2 (German Language Certificate – Level B2/C1) of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the States in the Federal Republic of Germany (Kultusministerkonferenz). Level I of the DSD is considered proof of knowledge of the German language necessary to be accepted at a study college. Pursuant to the Resolution of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the States in the Federal Republic of Germany, Level II qualifies as proof of knowledge of the German language required for a college/university education.
