Die Elterninitiative der Deutschen Schule Fort Lauderdale

PTO Germanschool FLWillkommen!

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) provides a wonderful way for Family and Friends to be helpful while making connections at the German School of Fort Lauderdale. We invite you to partake at whatever level fits your schedule and lifestyle! There are volunteer opportunities large and small, as well as plenty of chances to simply gather and socialize with others involved in our German-American Culture.  The Parent Initiative of the GSFL has launched a volunteer system to make several cultural German events possible and to keep tuition cost as low as possible.

Best of all, our volunteer system allows our parents to actively partake in their children’s educational experience at our school.

Mission:
The mission of the PTO of the German School of Fort Lauderdale is to create a genuine German-speaking environment that fosters the relationship between community, school, and home for the prosperity of every student of the GSFL. Our PTO is an integrative collaboration of prestigious family oriented members that foster a friendly and enjoyable learning atmosphere where native and non-native German children and adults may develop and enhance their German language skills and cultural understanding.

Membership:
Any parent, guardian, or other adult standing in loco parentis for a student at the German School of Fort Lauderdale may be a member and have voting rights. The director, Svenja Iglesias, and any teacher employed at the school may be a member and have voting rights.  To be eligible, teachers must have the necessary credentials to teach or possess a teaching certification from a German-speaking country.
Any eligible person may become a member at any time by attending any regular or special PTO meeting and agreeing to membership, or by contacting any of the PTO officers through GermanSchoolPTO@gmail.com  and requesting membership. All members shall have full voting rights immediately upon notification of membership.

History:
Formed in the Spring of 2014, the GSFL PTO is a natural outgrowth of the longstanding tradition of parent involvement within our German-American community. We formed to help streamline some of the many volunteer activities for our Preschool and Saturday school programs, to better coordinate fundraising efforts, and to provide new ways for parents to engage as our school continues to grow bigger from year to year. The PTO was formally funded as a Florida nonprofit corporation in on January 13th, 2014 and is currently lead by our founding board members.
